Looking for renovating ideas and inspiration, home decor tips on refreshing your home, or need help with how to rejuvenate your personal space? At tonic australia, we know summer and having had a break over the festive season is often a time when we find headspace to look thoroughly at our home and decide it needs a little ‘facelift’. It can be an inspiring time but also daunting.

The team at tonic is all about finding wellness, life-focus and beautiful products, and part of this means we love to give advice on making any kind of homewares or home refresh process, easier.

If you’re feeling like you may need to make over a particular room in your home this summer, you may not know where to start.

Here are our tips on how to approach this and easy ways you can bring life to a room, easily and stress-free.

  1. Make a list.

We don’t know about you, but we are list-makesr from way back. Making lists and ticking things off as they’re completed can offer great satisfaction. Lists are a great way to remind you of what you’ve not yet done and also to keep you on track when refreshing a room at home or at work.

  1. Do some research.

Flicking through some magazines either in print or checking out plenty online, will help give you an indication of what you like the look of. There are also an abundance of applications available now to download to your smartphone which can allow you the opportunity to mix and match looks, or again find out about products and interiors that you didn’t know about. Making yourself aware of new colour stories, little items that can give that little extra ‘pop’ of fun or colour or texture to a room – these are all things that can give you that new fresh look and you can do all your research easily via online or print mags, or apps. Plus of course, you’ll find a great array of inspiration via social media platforms like Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr.

  1.  Decide on your budget.

There will always be beautiful, chic, clean, colourful items and products available at a variety of prices. Try not to be phased by the money because you can make over a room with a small or a large budget. It’s entirely up to you! If you decide your budget is a maximum of $300 then make your room refresh about new accessories, linen, a light fitting or a piece of second hand furniture. Little accessories like fabric covered door stops, candles, cushions and throws are great. If you’re redoing your bathroom go for fabric wrapped soaps, beautiful dispensers, candles, simplistic plants or greenery, linen or a beautifully framed picture that goes with the feel of your space and personality.

  1. Set a timeline.

One of the trickiest things about renovating whether a larger or smaller scale re-do, can be keeping yourself on track time-wise. So, at the very outset, set a timeframe that you think is realistic, keeping in mind that summer is often a busy entertaining time but also very handy for renovations and refreshes because we can traipse in and out of the house without muddy feet or cold air getting in and out of the house!

So, set your timeline, give yourself milestones, and also pat yourself on the back when you reach each one. Whether that is an extra glass of bubbles, or perhaps a little extra purchase for you (or your room or home) giving yourself rewards can be a great motivator. Another great way to keep yourself on track is to share your plans with a friend and get them to be your ‘project manager’ so they check on your success.

It might sound simple but it really does help.

  1. Celebrate!

Once you’ve completed your room or home refresh, celebrate! Take some photos before and after, if you’re savvy or invested in social media, share them, or just make sure you look at before and after pics and realise your fantastic accomplishment.
