Saving your sleep this Summer
This weekend marks the start of daylight saving time for Victorians and losing that hour can hurt! Up to 40% of Australians experience sleep difficulties, an issue that can negatively affect many aspects of physical and mental health. While only an hour, the change in time as we move into summer, can throw off your sleeping patterns leaving you drowsy and (let’s be honest!) a bit cranky.
Relax and wind down with a warm bath.
A good night’s sleep starts with a good bedtime routine. Begin to relax and wind down well before bedtime with a cup of herbal tea and a soothing bath. Avoid caffeine in the afternoon to let your body settle into its natural rhythms. Our inflatable bath pillow and softly scented orange blossom candles are the perfect partners for a warm bath. Don’t forget a water resistant shower cap for those days when you don’t need to wash your hair.
Protect your sleep with an eye mask.
Longer, lighter days are one of the positives of daylight saving time but excess light can affect sleep quality. A Tonic eye mask ensures a darker environment to encourage more restful nights. Avoid waking up with the sun by hiding away from it with a protective mask, at least for a little while. Designed with soft satin backings, Tonic’s eye masks are comfortable to wear and gentle on skin and hair.
Reduce your screen time.
And finally, put down the electronics well before bedtime! Reducing screen time (and especially social media) in the evening helps your mind slow down allowing your body to drift easily to sleep at night.
Stay well and get a good night’s sleep x
